Social attitudes and writing style

In this section of the website there are comments about some of the stories which appear in our publications, along with brief extracts from the stories.
Mostly, the  stories are  analysed for social attitudes and writing style, although there might also be some political  commentary.
Where possible, some humour is injected into the commentary.

Social attitudes

To some extent, the  social attitudes which  prevailed at the time  the stories were written influences the writing style. This is inevitable.

Writing style

If we were pressed (no pun intended)  to describe the  original writing style -  the style  of journalism,  we would probably describe it as
' pompous'  and 'opinionated.'
But we would also probably describe it as 'colourful' -  more colourful   than  modern journalism.

Historical Skegness videos

The website will also feature videos about some of the stories which appear in the Skegness revisited series of publications.

The videos will be filmed in various locations in and around Skegness and will include a commentary by Angela Gooch, the researcher for Skegness Revisited. The commentary will briefly relate the historical events that took place in these locations.

Skegness historical events and human interest stories

Skegness Revisited takes the view that people and human interest stories are just as important as  events and dates.

Skegness Re-visited is a series of projects highlighting historical events and  human interest stories which occurred in the seaside  holiday resort of Skegness, England.
The projects will mostly be of interest to fans of Skegness - current visitors and tourists who have been visiting the resort for many years. But they will also be of interest to people who are interested in the development of a traditional British seaside resort, and - because of the human interest stories - in British social history.
The purpose of  the website is to introduce the projects. At present we have several on-going projects and we will introduce them here as soon as they are available.

Nostalgia and the human interest story

'Nostalgia' perhaps suggests looking back at a
period of history from a wishful point of view.
It suggests that we wish those happy carefree days were back again.
During most periods of history there really were happy carefree days.
But there were also some very difficult times.
